I Will Take Care of You as if You Were a Stray Kitten
September 27, 2007
I have a sixth sense. I have the uncanny ability to spot cats. Just ask my family. We’ll be driving down the road and I’ll say, “Look there’s a cat.” And the feline of the moment is way out in a field or ditch and we pass it so fast that no one else sees it.
The danger comes when I’m alone and these kitty sightings occur. Earlier this summer, I was driving on a small road near a shopping center. I saw a tiny kitten running along the curb. Instinctively, I pulled over the car and went in search of the kitten.
She hid herself first in some tall weeds (she was *that* tiny!). Then she hid above the rear wheel of a parked car. Then she ran down the road a little more and tried to climb a tree.
I finally caught the cat. But she was not too thrilled about the situation. She bit me, and her teeth dug deep. And somehow I didn’t bleed, but instead the three tiny puncture wounds were sealed. She also gave me a nasty scratch (that did bleed)!
I took her to my car, where she proceeded to get herself stuck up behind the radio. Animal control had to come and pry her out. Thankfully, my family was understanding. Actually, they were more than understanding. The cuteness of this tiny little animal won them over. She is now one of our three pets.
It turns out the kitten was about 6 weeks old when I found her. It’s kind of a miracle I even saw her because she was so small. The vet said I rescued her in the knick of time. She probably couldn’t have survived much longer without a home.
Sometimes our clients are like stray kittens. Their website has been trying to survive in the wild, but it needs a little TLC in order to thrive. But making the transition surviving to thriving can be scary. The unknown is usually a very scary thing. And clients can be just as resistant and feisty as my kitty.
But I have good news: Once you settle in, you’ll see things aren’t really so bad. Engaging in social media is fun. Your new site is increasing conversions. All those fears you had going in have you thinking, “Why was I so worried before?”
By the way, as I write that, my kitten is curled up next to me. She loves her new home. She never tries to escape outside to her old life. She’s got it good and she knows it.
You can feel the same way about your online presence.
