I should probably let my husband write this post since his geek score is much higher than mine and he is currently producing an internet podcast about superheroes. But I’ll do my best.

DC Comics recently announced the creation of ZudaComics.com, their official foray into online custom publishing. The site will be officially launched in October.

In an interview with ComicBookResources.com, Ron Perazza explained how the site will work. After the launch, users will be offered the opportunity to submit their comics to Zuda Comics. An internal review process will determine which ones are published online. Those selections will get a limited series, and users will be asked to vote and leave comments. Each month a winner will be selected and offered a one year gig.

This is a great example of a traditional media company embracing online communities. Instead of fearing negative feedback or giving away secrets or the quality of the product, they are engaging consumers, giving them an outlet for their creativity and opinions, and having a conversation with the customer.

If only every company would be this bold.
